One for them

Give your child the toy otoscope and encourage them to check their favorite stuffy's ears.

Get in position

Turn on the light. Hold the otoscope in your dominant hand. Extend your pinky and rest it against your child's cheek to steady your grip. Pull on the earlobe up for kids & Adults, and down for babies.

Look outside the ear first.

If you see any drainage, stop the exam and call your doctor.

Take a look & Make it Fun

“I'm going to look for green sprinkles in your ear”. Ease the tip gently into the ear canal. Point it 45 degrees towards the nose.

Match what you see to the 8 common ear, nose, and throat symptoms in the Guidebook (from Step 3 above).

Clean and store

Clean the otoscope with a soft cloth or alcohol wipe. Discard the used tip to avoid introducing bacteria back into the ear. Place everything back in the clear case until next time.
